Welcome to Contemporary Jazz 1!
In this class we will learn the difference between classic styles and a contemporary format of technique. We will explore body, space, time, energy, and relationship to create art that conveys our expressions and ideas! We will be using Google Classroom throughout the Fall Semester of 2020. Please check your email to receive your Google Classroom code. Email Ms. M if you have lost, didn't receive, or misplaced your code: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Students are required to do a self evaluation every week and turn it into Ms. M. Part of that self-evaluation is recording attendance (#showup & #listenup) and then recording whether you were fully present and danced your best (#blessup & dance). If you were absent for a reason that you can still receive credit before, YOU are responsible for seeking opportunities for make-up work. Here are some make-up resources below!
In case of absence, ALWAYS check with Mrs. M for make up work FIRST. Most missed classroom work can be found on your class' page. If asked to complete the "General Make Up Work Assignment," you can find it below
General Make-up Work
Ask Ms. M first, and complete a Jazz or Hip Hop Class online. Search for "beginners jazz (or hip hop) dance tutorial," and see what you find! One video learned = 1 full day of participation.
Class-specific Make-up Work
- Try this youtube channel & find a jazz or hip hop dance you want to learn!
- Learn more about Jazz Dance History through Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago and write a five sentence mini reflection on what you learned in this video!
- Make up your own 32-count jazz or hip-hop dance with your choice of music - include steps that we have learning in class, video tape yourself and send to Ms. M!
